William James's The Principles of Psychology, first published in two volumes in 1890, examines the scope of psychology, brain function, habit, the stream of thought, self-consciousness, attention, memory, sensation, perception, emotion, will, and hypnotism. James states in the preface that the work grew largely from his classroom instruction in psychology at Harvard University. This 1988 special edition reproduces the 1890 Henry Holt edition in two volumes.
