Introduction by Philip Ziegler
John Lukacs examines the British War Cabinet's deliberations from May 24 to 28, 1940, focusing on Winston Churchill, Lord Halifax, and the debate over possible negotiations with Germany or continuing the war. Drawing on government records, private papers, and contemporary accounts, the book includes an introduction by Philip Ziegler, historical photographs and cartoons, a bibliography, and an index. First published in 1999, this 2011 Folio Society edition follows the text of the first edition with minor emendations.
