本書にはジャン・ボーフレ、ハンス＝ゲオルク・ガダマー、ルネ・シャール、ヘルベルト・マルクーゼらが寄稿。ハイデガーとの個人的な交流や対話、研究上の関わりについて、それぞれの立場から記している。久松真一や西谷啓治による寄稿も収められ、日本の思想家たちの視点も加わっている。巻頭には彫刻家ハンス・ヴィンマーによるハイデガーの肖像彫刻の写真を掲載する。
