Marcus Clarke's For the Term of His Natural Life follows Rufus Dawes through transportation and imprisonment, with sections set at sea, Macquarie Harbour, Port Arthur, and Norfolk Island. The volume includes the author's preface, an introduction and bibliography by L. H. Allen, an epilogue, and an appendix. This is the 1961 reprint of The World's Classics edition first published in the series in 1952.
