『Tom Jones』『Joseph Andrews』『Amelia』『Jonathan Wild』『A Journey from This World to the Next』をはじめ、随筆、政治・社会風刺、戯曲を収録する。後半には『The Tragedy of Tragedies』『The Covent-Garden Tragedy』『The Mock Doctor』『The Miser』『The Wedding-Day』などの劇作品を収め、小説家だけでなく劇作家・風刺作家としてのフィールディングの仕事を一巻で見ることができる。ヘンリー・フィールディングの肖像口絵、筆跡複製も収録するほか、図版多数収録。
