ディロンは1930年代末から1940年代にかけてホルモン治療と外科的治療を受け、現在では、陰茎形成術を受けた最初期のトランス男性として知られている。
本書ではディロンの幼少期からオックスフォード時代、ガレージで働いた時期、医学教育、医師としての生活、私生活が公になった時期、インドで過ごした晩年までを追っている。
