アメリカの作家・出版人であり、パリでBlack Sun Pressを運営したカレス・クロスビーによる、自身の幼少期から20世紀前半の文学・芸術界との交流までを回想した自伝。1955年にAlvin Redman Limitedから刊行された英国初版。
クロスビーは序文で、日記やスクラップブックを資料として書いたのではなく、自らの記憶に残る出来事をもとに本書を綴ったと述べている。幼少期や社交界へのデビューから始まり、第二の夫ハリー・クロスビーとの結婚、1920年代のロンドンとパリでの生活、文学者や芸術家たちとの交流へと進んでいく。ハリーとともにパリで設立したBlack Sun Pressをめぐる記憶も収められている。同社はジェイムズ・ジョイス、D・H・ロレンス、ハート・クレインらの作品を刊行し、ハリーの死後もカレスが出版活動を続けた。
D・H・ロレンス、ハート・クレイン、マックス・エルンスト、サルバドール・ダリ、ケイ・ボイルらの写真に加え、Black Sun Pressやクロスビー自身のブラジャー特許に関する図版も多数収録。
20世紀前半の文学・芸術・出版の世界を、作品を刊行する側でもあった人物の記憶から読むことのできる一冊。

Caresse Crosby recounts her life from childhood and her social debut through her years with Harry Crosby and her involvement with literary and artistic circles in London and Paris. The volume includes fifty-eight photographs on fourteen leaves, featuring figures including D. H. Lawrence, Hart Crane, Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, and Kay Boyle, as well as material relating to the Black Sun Press. First British edition, 1955.
