モレルは文学・芸術のパトロンとして活動し、ヴァージニア・ウルフ、ヴァネッサ・ベル、D・H・ロレンス、ジークフリード・サスーン、オーガスタス・ジョン、バートランド・ラッセルらと交友を持った。本書は1873年の誕生から1938年までを23章で構成する。ヴィクトリア朝の少女時代と結婚生活から始まり、ブルームズベリーとの関わり、ラッセルとの関係、第一次世界大戦期、ガーシントン・マナーを中心とした交友、晩年へと進んでいく。巻頭には父方・母方双方の家系図を収録する。巻末には注と資料、3篇の付録、謝辞、索引を備え、付録の一つにはウィリアム・プロマーによる「The Planes of Bedford Square」を収録する。

Miranda Seymour traces the life of Ottoline Morrell from her Victorian childhood through her marriage, relationships, patronage, and involvement with writers and artists associated with Bloomsbury and early twentieth-century British cultural life. The volume includes a family tree, Notes and Sources, three appendices, Acknowledgements, and an Index. First American edition, 1993.
