10世紀の平将門の反乱を記した『将門記』を英訳・編集した古典資料。1986年刊行初版。
『将門記』は平将門の生涯の末期と939年から940年の反乱を中心に記し、本書ではその英訳に加えて、歴史的背景、本文研究、言語と文学的伝統を解説している。
本書は「Historical Analysis」「Texts, Dates, and Authorship」「Language, Style, and Literary Tradition」の三章に続き、『Shōmonki』の英訳本文を収録する。その後にGenealogical tables、Chronology、Bibliography、Indexを備え、巻末には坂東諸国の折込地図が付されている。

Translated and edited by Judith N. Rabinovitch, this volume presents an English translation of Shōmonki together with studies of its historical background, texts, authorship, language, style and literary tradition. It includes genealogical tables, a chronology, bibliography, index, illustrations and foldout maps of the Bandō provinces. First edition, 1986.
