平安時代に成立した歌物語『伊勢物語』英訳本。978年に刊行されたペーパーバック初版。
翻訳には、大津有一と築島裕による本文を収めた阪倉篤義ほか編『竹取物語・伊勢物語・大和物語』を用いる。本書が底本とする三条西家本は、和歌と短い散文を組み合わせた125段から成る。在原業平と結びつけられてきた人物を中心に、恋愛、旅、宮廷生活、別離を描きながら、和歌を物語の中心に置いている。本文の後には六歌仙の『古今和歌集』収録歌と『伊勢物語』の異本文を付録として収め、注、参考文献、初句索引、総索引を付している。

An English translation of Ise monogatari, with an introduction and notes by Helen Craig McCullough. The volume contains 125 episodes, appendixes with Kokinshu poems by the Six Poetic Geniuses and variant texts of Ise monogatari, notes, works cited, an index of first lines, and a general index.
