Stratmannの辞典は『A Dictionary of the Old English Language』として1867年に初版が刊行され、Bradleyがその既刊版と遺稿をもとに本書を完成させた。巻頭にはHenry Bradleyによる序文、チョーサー『カンタベリー物語』の諸版を対応させた参照表、一般略語および記号の一覧を収録する。

The entries include English definitions, variant forms, grammatical information, vowel quantity, etymological information, and references to Middle English texts, with preliminary tables of references, abbreviations, and signs.
