本文は古英語の見出し語をアルファベット順に配列し、英語による語義、品詞、語形、異綴り、語源上の対応、古英語文献への参照を示す。見出しには実際の古英語本文に現れる綴りを用い、方言形や異綴りには相互参照を設けている。強変化動詞の主要な活用形も、それぞれ該当するアルファベット位置から参照できるようにしている。巻頭には古英語諸方言の母音比較表、推奨される語形と正規化表記、強変化動詞の語根母音表、強変化動詞の諸形に現れる母音から見出し語を確認するための索引を収録する。略語一覧には本文で参照される古英語作品、写本、辞典、語彙集、文法書がまとめられている。

Preliminary matter includes comparative tables of Old English dialect vowels, preferred and normalized forms, the root vowels of strong verbs, an index to graded and mutated vowels in strong verb forms, and a list of abbreviations.
