イギリスの作家・思想家であるW. H. Mallockが、古代ローマの詩人ルクレティウスの思想を、フィッツジェラルド版『ルバイヤート』で知られる四行詩の形式によって英詩へ再構成した作品。1900年5月にAdam and Charles Blackから刊行された初版。
本書ではルクレティウスの『De Rerum Natura』から、生と死、魂と身体、物質と自然の秩序、神々への恐怖、死後の存在の否定に関わる箇所を選んでいる。英詩の後に、対応するラテン語原文と逐語的な英語散文訳を収録する。

W. H. Mallock recasts selected passages from Lucretius in the stanza form made familiar in English by Edward FitzGerald's Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. The sequence is not presented as a conventional translation, and parallel passages from the Latin original are appended after the poem. First edition, 1900.
