本書ではショクリがジュネと交わした会話や、カフェや街中で目にした出来事を日付ごとに記している。記録の中心となるのは1968年から1969年にかけての交流で、文学や政治、カミュとサルトル、アメリカの若者たちをめぐるジュネの率直な発言が、タンジェの日常の中に置かれている。文学史上の人物としてではなく、同じ街に居合わせた一人の人間としてジュネを見ることのできるユニークな一冊。
