本書は『アラビアン・ナイト』に由来する物語、異教伝承とキリスト教聖人伝、アーサー王物語、インドの女神神話やシヴァをめぐる物語を収めている。異なる地域に伝わる物語を語り直しながら、悪や死、試練、変容を示す象徴を読み解いていく。本文中に図版6点収録。

The King and the Corpse presents tales drawn from Arabian, European and Indian traditions together with Heinrich Zimmer's interpretations of their symbols. Edited by Joseph Campbell, the volume is arranged in two parts and includes six plates following page 164. First Indian Edition, 1999.
