エリザベス1世およびジェームズ1世治世下の英国王室Revels Officeの会計記録を抜粋・記した演劇史資料。
Revels Officeは宮廷の祝祭や上演に関わる実務を担った機関である。本書はMasters and Yeomenの公文書をもとに、宮廷祝祭や上演の準備に用いられた衣装、布地、装飾、舞台用品、運搬、職人への支払いなどの記録を収めている。なお、本書に収録された一部の記録は、後世の研究において真偽をめぐる議論の対象となった。原資料の公刊だけでなく、19世紀におけるシェイクスピア研究と史料編集のあり方を伝える書でもある。
完成された戯曲だけでは見えにくい、宮廷上演を支えた人々と物の動きからシェイクスピア時代の演劇を考えるための一冊。

Extracts from the Accounts of the Revels at Court presents records from the original office books of the Masters and Yeomen during the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I. Edited with an introduction and notes by Peter Cunningham, it includes accounts of materials, decorations, transport, labour, payments, and a list of plays mentioned in the volume. First edition, published in 1842, with no edition statement in the book.
