Lord Byron

シェイクスピアに次ぐ第二の英国の詩人・第6代バイロン男爵ジョージ・ゴードン・バイロン（George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, 1788年1月22日 - 1824年4月19日）の詩集。この詩集はバイロンの友人でもあり、ジェーン・オースティンやサー・ウォルター・スコットをはじめ、イングランドで最も有名な作家たちの作品を出版し成功したジョン・マレーによって出版された全集。六巻揃い。

Lord Byron (1788 – 1824) remains one of the most famous English poets, and he was a literary superstar in his own day. Now, it is interesting to reflect on his involvement in the Greek War of Independence (1821-1829) from the Ottoman Empire. He used his own wealth, as well as his celebrity status, to support the Greek cause. Byron would ultimately give his life in this war.

This New Edition of Lord Byron's poetical works was published in 1855 by John Murray of Albemarle Street. Murray (1778-1843), after whom the company was named, was a successful publisher who published many of England's most famous authors, including Jane Austen and Sir Walter Scott, was Byron's publisher and friend. He published Byron's second book, Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, which was an instant success. Byron remarked, "I awoke one morning and found myself famous." Murray is also remembered for his role in the destruction of Byron's memoirs, which were deemed too scandalous to print.

This find binding in full calf has gilt inlays, five raised bands, Morocco leather label on the spine, and beautiful marbled edges. Six volumes.
