巻頭に序論と年譜を置き、書誌本体を挿絵入り書籍と、定期刊行物・小型印刷物などへの寄稿の二部に分ける。文学作品の挿絵に加え、雑誌や広告に関わる仕事も参照できる構成となっている。図版には『アンデルセン童話集』、ポーの『Tales of Mystery & Imagination』、『ファウスト』、スウィンバーンの詩集などに関する作例を掲げる。巻末には付録と索引を備える。
