フランス生まれの作家アナイス・ニンによる、1934年から1937年の日記を収めた作品。本書は死後に編まれた「A Journal of Love」シリーズ第3巻の1995年初版であり、生前の刊行版で省かれていた私生活の記述を含む。
1934年12月のニューヨーク到着から始まり、フランスとアメリカを行き来する生活を綴る。夫ヒューとの結婚生活、ヘンリー・ミラーや精神分析家オットー・ランクとの関係、ゴンサロ・モレとの恋愛が記される。人との結びつきを求める思いと自立への欲求が、書くことを続ける日々の中で語られている。ルパート・ポールの序文を付し、巻末にはギュンター・シュトゥールマンによる人物解説と索引を収録する。本文中には写真図版8頁を挿入している。
